People have some things in common, what draws people's attention, makes them act and react, has been well studied, from long before the internet came to be, and also in regards to web site and application interaction. Companies like Microsoft, Apple, Google and other technology leaders, invest a lot of money into studying web site and application usage to make things easier and more efficient to use. The wise web designer considers these things in their design. At times following these conventions can take your web site to a whole new level, sometimes, it may require a beautiful design to make a few compromises in the effort of increasing the chances of success. Many things to consider when creating a web site might seem like common sense, some may not, but they are worth investigating and considering when creating your web site. I have years of experience in working with all kinds of users for all types of applications and web sites. With that experience I have come to understand what makes a web site easy to use. Not all designers and developers consider these things when doing there thing. Many times designers only want to make a visual statement and developers really only care it works at a technical level. To bridge that gap, be sure to consult with somebody that understands that important piece of design. |

You can have the most visually appealing site in the history of the internet, and that'd be all well and good, but, if it's not intuitive to use, it will be doomed to failure. When it comes to some areas of web design and development, I am very much in favor of "thinking outside the box" to be cliche', but there are some areas in which standards and adopted conventions are the way to go.
